Which Macs run macOS Monterey?

macOS Monterey was released on 25 October 2021; a newer macOS has shipped since. Apple’s compatibility page (support.apple.com/en-gb/103260, read 12 October 2026) names 47 entries and leaves out 13 entries (6 Macs we track) that were on its macOS Big Sur list: MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014); MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014); MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013); MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013); MacBook Air (13-inch, Early 2014); MacBook Air (11-inch, Early 2014); MacBook Air (13-inch, Mid 2013); MacBook Air (11-inch, Mid 2013); MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, Early 2015); iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Mid 2015); iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014); iMac (21.5-inch, Mid 2014); Mac Pro (Late 2013). The list covers 50 of the 56 Macs we track that were released by the day macOS Ventura shipped (24 October 2022). The other 6 Macs in that group do not run macOS Monterey: Apple’s list does not name them and no Apple page we cite gives them that release.

One page: Apple Support (UK) — macOS Monterey is compatible with these computers, published by Apple on 5 June 2025 and read on . The table is that list, model by model in Apple’s order, with the Mac on this site each model covers. Beside it is that Mac’s own “newest macOS” row, which cites the Apple page that gives it; the site’s tests check that a Mac on this list has a row naming macOS Monterey or a newer release. The release dates come from endoflife.date — Apple macOS, read on .

Scope: the 56 Macs we track that were released by 24 October 2022, the day macOS Ventura shipped. The other 44 Macs were released after that, shipped with a newer macOS, and are not part of this list’s question, so they are not shown. A Mac that Apple’s list names is shown whatever its release date.

Macs we track that Apple’s list does not name

6 Macs do not run macOS Monterey: Apple’s list does not name them and no Apple page we cite gives them that release. Each is listed under the newest macOS Apple gives it, with the end of security updates for that macOS as endoflife.date — Apple macOS records it (read 2 October 2026).

macOS Big Sur

6 Macs

endoflife.date lists security support for Big Sur as ended on 2 February 2026.

What changed from macOS Big Sur

Apple’s list for macOS Big Sur (Apple Support (UK) — macOS Big Sur is compatible with these computers, read 12 October 2026) names 54 entries. 13 of them are not on the macOS Monterey list, 6 of them Intel Macs. They are named here as Apple’s macOS Big Sur list names them, with a link to our page for each Mac that has one: MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014) (Apple MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014)); MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014) (Apple MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014)); MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013); MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013); MacBook Air (13-inch, Early 2014) (Apple MacBook Air (13-inch, Early 2014)); MacBook Air (11-inch, Early 2014) (Apple MacBook Air (11-inch, Early 2014)); MacBook Air (13-inch, Mid 2013); MacBook Air (11-inch, Mid 2013); MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, Early 2015) (Apple MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, Early 2015)); iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Mid 2015); iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014) (Apple iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014)); iMac (21.5-inch, Mid 2014); Mac Pro (Late 2013). 7 of them have no page on MacIQ; the newest macOS Apple lists them for is macOS Big Sur.

How long each will keep getting updates

Apple publishes no date when a Mac stops getting macOS or security updates. Each Mac’s update page states the newest macOS Apple lists it for and the pattern in Apple’s past releases, labelled as the inference it is.
